PARCC

Grades: 9th-11th (retakes for 12th graders)

Dates:  April

Students must pass these exams in the areas of reading, math, science, social studies, and writing as part of their graduation requirements.  See APS website or PED for specific scores needed in subject areas and information on Alternative Demonstrations of Competency.

 

SBA Science

Grades: 11th grade

Optional Testing

PSAT/NMSQT

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a program cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). It's a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT®. It also gives you a chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools.

Grade: 10 (and 11th)

Cost:  Free for 10th graders

Dates:  October 24, 2018

 

ACT 

The ACT is designed to assess your academic readiness for college and required for admission to colleges and universities and accepted at all New Mexico schools.

Grades:  11th and 12th

Cost:  $50.50 (no writing); $67.00 (writing)*

Testing Location:  at most comprehensive High Schools and UNM (not ECA)

Dates:  Sept 8, Oct 27, and Dec 8, 2018, and Feb 9, April 13, June 8, and July 13, 2019.

 

SAT and Subject Tests (formerly SAT I & II)

The SAT and SAT Subject Tests are a suite of tools designed to assess your academic readiness for college– college admission test preferred by some out-of-state colleges and universities.

Grades:  11th and 12th

Cost:  $47.50 (no essay)  $64.50 (with essay) SAT; Subject Test fees vary by number and type*

Testing Location:  at most comprehensive High Schools (not ECA), UNM

Dates:  Oct 6, Nov 3, and Dec 1, 2018, and March 9, May 4, and June 1, 2019.

 

Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world. As an aptitude test, the ASVAB measures your strengths, weaknesses, and potential for future success. The ASVAB also provides you with career information for various civilian and military occupations and is an indicator for success in future endeavors whether you choose to go to college, vocational school, or a military career.

Grades:  10th and up

Cost:  Free

Testing Location:  ECA or Albuquerque MEPS (10500 Copper Ave NE Suite J)

Dates:  dates determined by each school

 

Advanced Placement Examinations

The AP Examinations are administered each year in May and represent the culmination of college-level work in a given discipline in a secondary school setting. Rigorously developed by committees of college and AP high school faculty, the AP Exams test students' ability to perform at a college level.  AP exams may result in college credit and advanced placement in the college program, depending on the student’s scores and the each college’s specific policy.

Grades: 10th – 12th

Cost:  $94 per exam*

Accuplacer

Exams in reading, English and math that determine course placement at CNM and UNM.

Grades: 9th – 12th

Cost:  Free

Testing Location:  ECA or CNM

Dates:  determined by the school; prior to each semester

 

*Fee Waivers are available for the ACT, SAT, and AP exams for students who qualify for Free/Reduced lunch.  Exam prices are subject to change.
