Practical Nursing

Letter from the Nursing Director

Successful completion of all five semesters allows the student to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX)

Grades: Students apply in the Spring of their sophomore year and attend the program as a Junior and Senior for a total of five consecutive semesters.

Lab Fees: $50 per semester (additional fees with NCLEX application)

Prerequisites:

  • Must attend an APS school
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Must be 16 years old by September 1, 2017
  • Must be capable of performing Essential Functions
  • Must have two semesters of Biology with a minimum of a “C” each semester
  • Must have two years of Mathematics with a minimum grades of “C” each year

  • Must successfully pass pre-entrance exams
  • Provide three form letters of reference from Math, English and Science teachers (see cec.aps.edu for further instruction)  Teacher Reference Letter Form.doc
  • Must attend interview sessions with nursing faculty
  • Must write a letter of intent during the interview session

Additional Information: Once accepted into the program, the student will be expected to obtain:

  • Access to internet
  • Electronic readers/lap top
  • Reliable transportation to clinical sites
  • Uniforms
  • Medical release to perform Essential Functions
  • Annual TB test
  • Annual influenza vaccine
  • Updated immunizations
  • CPR certification
  • Purchase of a Resource Book for Medication Administration
  • To participate in the clinical portion of the course students will be drug tested and clinical settings may require documentation such as Social Security number and proof of citizenship.
