PARKING LOT COURTESY:
Please be mindful that ECA/CEC has a small parking lot and has to share space and traffic flow with CEC students, staff, and ABQ High traffic.  Please pull into the lot and follow the flow of traffic to the right (clockwise).  Please pull as far forward as you can when dropping a kiddo off and try to pull off to the side so folks can get around you.  Swiftness helps too, so please have those conversations about after school activities, plans, homework, etc., before pulling up so your student can get out quickly and cars can keep moving.

When pulling out of the ECA/CEC lot, only right hand turns are allowed.

BAD INTERSECTION:

The intersection of the frontage road and Mountain experiences about an accident a week.  Many times, the accidents we witness are serious - and scary.  PLEASE BE CAREFUL.  We have called the city, the county, the mayor’s office, the news stations, etc., and nothing has been done about it although it’s been a dangerous intersection for years!  Avoid it when you can - or at least be cautious - especially when pulling out across the frontage road from under the overpass.

SCHOOL DONATIONS:
Thank you to parents who are willing to make donations to the school.  These funds help support school activities, dances, fun nights, field trips, banquets, assemblies, etc.  An envelope box is located at the front desk in the office if you would like to contribute.

CLOTHING BANK:
Donations are needed for the APS Clothing Bank - new sox, new underwear, hygiene products and gently used teen appropriate clothing are always needed and appreciated.

Students in need of clothing, underwear, sox, jackets, school supplies can be brought to the Clothing Bank for assistance.  Contact Ms. Ramsey at ramsey_l@aps.edu for the referral form and for more information.

BISTRO NEEDS:
Several of the most popular sandwiches sold in the Bistro contain mesquite chicken.  This spice is sold by Costco ($5.99 per jar).
Unfortunately, the school can’t shop from Costco as APS doesn’t have an account with them.  Parents can support the Bistro by donating a jar of this spice. It is called Kirkland Sweet Mesquite Seasoning.

The Bistro profits return to the CEC and ECA students in the form of supplies for the classroom.  For example, the Bistro donated over $7,000 last year to CEC Nursing, Cosmetology, EMT, and Autos, and to the ECA Senior Field Trip, Prom, and Senior Banquet (to mention just a few).

Ms. Bartlett wanted to share some information with all of you from our school library:

First, I wanted to make sure everyone was aware that ECA does, indeed, have a school library.  To date we have approximately 1100 books on our shelves.  The majority are fiction and should appeal to a wide range of interests and reading levels.  At the start of each school year, I visit the freshman English classes to teach students how to check out books.  Because I can’t be the full-time librarian, students have to be responsible to find and check out books on their own.  Any time a student has a question, however, they know they can find me in the Bistro every morning.

In addition to the books, we also have a museum pass for the Natural History Museum which may be checked out for up to a week at a time.  This pass allows up to 2 adults and 2 children free admission to the Natural History Museum – located just west of our school on Mountain Road.  While we only have one pass, I hope that many families will make use of it.  Please understand that there is a $25.00 replacement fee if the pass is lost.  The pass can be checked out just like a book.  The pass is stored, not on the shelves, but with the receptionist in the front office.

There are also some great programs available to anyone who has a public library card.  Every public library location has museum passes for all of the public museums in Albuquerque including the BioPark, Explora, Maxwell Museum, as well as a New Mexico Family Pass which provides free admission to 15 state museums and historic sites throughout New Mexico for up to 6 people.  In addition, library patrons can check out and download movies, ebooks, audiobooks and more through Hoopla.  Simply click on http://abqlibrary.org/digitalmedia/hoopla to get started.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have about the ECA Library.

Best,

Tracie Bartlett
