Do the FAFSA before Jan 1st

  1. Go to: www.fafsa.gov
  2. Click on start FAFSA
  3. Request a Pin
  4. Submit
  5. You will get a SAR (Student Aid Report) within a few weeks if you need to make corrections
  6. YOU WILL NOT GET FINANCIAL AID OR THE BRIDGE SCHOLARSHIP IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS!!!

Parents and Student will need the following documents to complete the FAFSA:

  • 2016 Federal Income Tax Return
  • W-2 forms
  • Birthdate
  • Social Security Number
  • Any 2016 business and investment mortgage information, business farm records, stock, bond and other investment records
  • Current bank statements
  • Alien registration card if you are not a U.S. citizen

NEWS

 

COLLEGE FAIR:
College Fair is being held at the Abq Convention Center on Oct 1st  from 12-3.   Meet representatives from over 150 colleges and attend workshops about how to make the most of college, paying for college, and college athletics.  This is a great and FREE opportunity to get your students looking at colleges, thinking about the process, and learning about different opportunities.  It is exciting and parents are welcome to attend as well.

 

UNM SENIOR DAY:

UNM will host its’ annual SENIOR DAY on Oct 7th from 8:00-2pm.  Students can get tours of the campus, hear presentations about Lobo life, attend a luncheon and an Information Fair- for free.  Participants must register at http://admissions.unm.edu/seniorday/ 

 

PSAT:

The PSAT will be offered at ECA on Oct 11th from 8-12.  ALL 10th graders will test.  Interested 11th graders are welcome to take the PSAT that day as well and must take the PSAT as an 11th grader to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship.  Contact Ms Ramsey if your student is in 11th grade and wants to take the PSAT this year.   9th and 11th graders (not testing) will have regular classes that day. 

 

SENIOR CAPS AND GOWNS:

Campus Specialties will meet with SENIORS in advisory on Oct 25th to go over cap and gown orders for graduation. 

AP EXPECTATIONS:
The expectation of any AP course is that a student can anticipate 2-3 hours of homework for each AP class every night.  Students get a weighted .025 added into their overall gpa for taking an AP class. 


 

ACT TEST:

Attached also are dates of the ACT this year.  Seniors should take/retake on Sept 9 or Oct 28 and Juniors should plan to test next spring.    Fee Waivers are available for students who qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch- see Ms Ramsey. 

 

ACT TEST PREP:

CEC will offer an ACT Test Prep class on Mondays beginning for the October test.   See flyer.  Cost is $100 and includes prep book and other materials.  Space is limited- see Ms Ramsey to sign up.

 

 

COLLEGE VISITS:

UNM will be on campus to do a free Onsite Admissions for ALL Seniors on Sept 13th  at 9:30 in advisory.    Every ECA SENIOR will go through the UNM application process.  UNM will be available to talk about Housing, Financial Aid, Scholarships, and special programs.   Students will need to bring their social security # on that day to apply to UNM. 

 

NM TECH will be here on September 15th at 9:15.   Application is free!

 

NMSU will be here Sept 27th at 10:10am.  Also free to apply at that time….

 

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION:

DR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DUE Sept 8

Albuquerque Seniors can write an essay and apply for the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Scholarship worth $1,000.    See http://mlkmc.com for the application and link to more info.  Applications must be postmarked no later than Sept 8th

 

PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD DUE Nov 7

5-12 graders who are engaged in a volunteer/community service activity are eligible to apply for $1,000 award.  See www.spirit.prudential.com to download the application and submit it to school admin or counseling by Nov 7.

 

 

HISPANIC HERITAGE FOUNDATION YOUTH AWARDS DUE Oct 2

See attached info regarding the  Hispanic Heritage Foundation Youth Awards and share this with any potential SENIOR students.   Students can apply for awards/grants in the areas of Entrepreneurship, Community Service, Education, Healthcare and Science, Media and Entertainment, and STEM.  I know we have some amazing kiddos out there and ECA/CEC is doing some incredible things with them in working towards their goals!!  Please encourage them to apply
